Chinese electronics company Vivo is giving everyone a glimpse of their unibody smartphone. Their main selling point? A streamline between aesthetics and functionality. Ergo, we have the disappearance of button, ports, and speaker grills. It’s wrapped in a single piece of glass too.
Vivo’s launch event in Hong Kong this week flaunted their unibody prototype with its “Waterdrop Glass.” The use of glass for a front and back cover in contemporary smartphones aren’t groundbreakingly new.
But the edge lies in Vivo developing new technologies to completely eliminate the typical openings present in most smartphones — like the bezels, the seams, the frame around the screen, the portholes, etc.
Some Specifications We Ought to Know
In place of physical buttons, the Vivo Apex 2019 makes use of a combination between pressure-sensing and capacitive touch. You can wake up the phone, put it to sleep, or change the volume when you press on the sides of the glass where the bezel would usually be.
