‘Knock Knock’ and ‘The Final Girls’, October 9

Kick off October with suspense and a little bit of comedy.

‘Knock Knock’ stars Keanu Reeves (Matrix Trilogy) as Evan Webber, with Lorenza Izzo (The Green Inferno) as Genesis and Ana de Armas as Bel. The opening is reminiscent of ‘The Human Centipede’, where two women knock on someone’s door for help. In this case, what seemed to be a kind gesture on the part of Evan takes a turn for the worse. What would you do if you found out you had been played? Well, Evan’s life is about to be destroyed by these two cunning, beautiful women in this erotic thriller.

Directed by Eli Roth, ‘Knock Knock’ will make you think twice before opening your home to strangers.

‘The Final Girls’ is like a mix of ‘Pleasantville’ and ‘Scream’. In this horror comedy, Director Todd Strauss-Schulson (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) has a little fun when Max Cartwright (Taissa Farmiga) gets mysteriously transported to an 80’s film that starred her mother, Amanda (Malin Åkerman from 27 Dresses). Although glad to be reunited with her Mom, whom she lost in real life, Max must try to find her way back home with the help of her friends. Too bad it’s a horror movie and there’s a machete-wielding killer out to get them.

If you enjoyed the 1999 film ‘The Haunting’, then prepare for this masterpiece by Director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth). ‘Crimson Peak’ stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) as the lovely Edith Cushing. Torn between her childhood friend and a mysterious stranger, she marries Sir Thomas Sharpe, played by Tom Hiddleston (Thor). She then moves in with her new husband and his sister. However, she soon finds that the house is not just another old mansion – and her husband is not who he seems to be.

Also starring Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) as Lucille Sharpe, this is a romantic horror flick guaranteed to make you stay in your seats.

‘The Last Witch Hunter’ and ‘Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension’, October 23

October isn’t just the month of horror: it’s also for action and sequels.

Get ready for ‘The Last Witch Hunter’, a supernatural action movie about an immortal witch hunter, who must fight covens in New York city to stop a plague from destroying mankind. The witch hunter is none other than Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious), a valiant warrior cursed by the Queen Witch to never see his wife and daughter – even in the afterlife. Being familiar with Vin’s movies, we can expect some adrenaline-pumping action with disturbing twists.

Speaking of sequels, Paranormal Activity hits the big screens again this year with ‘The Ghost Dimension’. Directed by Gregory Plotkin, the story follows a new family in a house in Palo Alto, California. Old tapes from the unfortunate previous family are found, and chaos soon ensues. You might be thinking that these ‘found footage’ type of movies are overrated, but the Paranormal franchise has a few surprises ahead (hint: a camera that can see supernatural stuff!).

Don’t take our word for it. We’re certainly excited to see some new faces in this old franchise.

‘Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse’, October 30

The man behind the Paranormal movie series is not done yet – Director Christopher B. Landon now wants to entice us with his new horror comedy film, ‘Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse’. It’s basically about a bunch of scouts who must team up when a zombie outbreak suddenly strikes their town. They have the upper hand with survival though, being scouts and all. Hey, as we can’t have Zombieland 2, this is definitely the next best thing.

Featuring Tye Sheridan (Dark Places) and David Koechner (Hit and Run), this film hopes to the importance of friendship (and a good utility knife).
