Having a slow performing phone can be frustrating most of the times. Especially if you are doing something important like chatting your office mates… Or beating the final boss in your mobile game.
However, that said, you can’t deny that this generation is functioning in a fast-paced world. Anything that is slow will inevitably be left behind and thrown in the trash. That goes for gadgets as well. We have discussed vampire apps that drain your phone’s battery before. Not only that, your favorite apps might also slow down your phone’s performance which can make it laggy.
Luckily, you don’t have to take it to a repair shop to fix it. And no, you don’t have to buy a new one either. There are quick and easy fixes that you can do yourself in under 5 minutes and here’s how to do it.

Clear Cache Data
Apps sometimes store pieces of data which speed up their performance on your phone. However, when your apps stored more than your storage can provide, cached data do more harm than good.
Remove your cached data by heading over to your Phone Settings. Select Storage and find Cached Data.
Tap on it and clear your cache by selecting OK.
Avoid/Disable Animations
Sure, animations are fancy and they’re cool to look at, but they also eat up a lot of your phone’s processor. Is it worth your phone’s declining performance?
Disable your phone’s animations by gaining access to the Developer’s Option. Head over to your phone’s settings and find your phone’s About Device. Locate the Build Number and tap it seven times. Don’t worry, you will be notified on how many taps you still needed to be a Developer.
Return to your phone’s settings and you will be able to see Developer’s Option just above About Device.
Disable your animations settings and you’re good to go.
Uninstall Some Apps
There are some apps that run in the background that eats up your phone’s resources. I know it’s hard to let go some of the apps but for the sake of your phone’s performance, you have to. There are two ways on how you can remove your apps aside from your phone’s default apps.
One, head to your phone’s main menu. Hold down the icon of the app that you wanted to uninstall and drag it to the Uninstall icon on top.
Two, you can uninstall apps by heading to the Settings. Tap on Application Manager and select the app that you want to uninstall.
Tap Uninstall and the app’s gone!
Turn Off Auto-Update
Auto-update from Google Play Store can be both a blessing and a curse. Blessing, cause you won’t have to install updates for your app manually. Very handy especially if you have tons of apps on your phone. Curse, because when you are using your phone and an update appears, your phone will lag.
This is because your phone is using up internet connection when downloading the updates thus exhausting your processor.
Turn auto-update on apps that you can manage to update manually. Head over to your Google Play Store and tap on the “hamburger menu” on the upper left then select Settings.
Tap on Auto-update Apps.
Adjust your settings to disable it and voila!
Free Up Storage Space
When your phone is filled with too much data a.k.a your files such as videos and photos, to name a few, it will naturally become slow. You don’t need a manual for this one. Delete unwanted files that take up space. If you don’t want to delete them, just create a back-up and then remove.
Properly Exit Apps
Another reason why your phone runs so slowly is that you haven’t correctly exited your apps. Little did you know that even though you pressed “back,” the apps are still running in the background cause they are still open.
To remedy this, hold down your Home button. You will see the apps that you have opened and just swipe to remove and close them properly.
Note: Not all phones function like this when you long-press the Home button. This is triggered when you long-press the “hamburger menu” on your phone or long-press the “back” button.
Restart Your Phone
If you haven’t restarted your phone for a long time, you can reset your phone. This clears up used resources that might stack up and apps that froze in the background. When you turn your phone again, you begin a clean slate and get to function correctly.
